Overview
Central Women's University (CWU) is a private university in Dhaka, set up in 1993 as the first university in Bangladesh created exclusively for women's education. It is an urban campus. It offers programmes in business, computer science, English, political science, sociology, geography and journalism.
Ulkaa Edu Rank 2027 places CWU in the 51-75 band, with a national position of 67. The position is computed from the published methodology (version 2027.1), and indicator coverage is 77%. In the Dhaka division it is listed in the 31-40 band.
No QS or Times Higher Education world or Asia ranking is recorded for CWU in Ulkaa's data.
CWU was established in 1993, and Beggzadi Mahmuda Nasir served as founding Vice-Chancellor until 1999. Its early years were not smooth: the University Grants Commission recommended closure of eight universities over academic standards, CWU among them. As of August 2010 the university received legal permission from the court to continue under a new governing body, and it has operated since.
Wikipedia says the court allowed the university to continue under a new governing body with new academic faculty and expanded academic offerings.

Programs

UGC data for 2023 shows 42 teachers, 3 of them with a PhD. OpenAlex records 42 works over the five years to 2025 and an h-index of 12 in 2026, a modest research footprint for a small institution. Programmes at a small university can change from session to session, so confirm which of these are currently admitting students before you apply. The teacher count of 42 against 651 students in 2023 gives roughly 15 students for each teacher, a figure worth weighing alongside the academic offering.
The list also includes the Master of Business Administration and Executive MBA, the BSc in Computer Science and Engineering and the BA in English Literature, each as a separate degree.
